  • This might be a bit controversial but... we felt none of the Hoi An vibes! Everyone seems to fall head over heels in love with it but we just thought it was tacky, fake and overrated - just like a Vietnamese theme park, everything in the old town seems to only be for show!
I came across this very instagrammable corner in a shop quite by chance as I liked their homewares but I recently saw a travel-Insta-couple who said they searched high and low for this very spot for hours so they could get ‘that’ shot... to me, that kinda sums up what Hoi An has become! #connieconsumesVietnam .

  • This is my idea of comfort food - though by this point in our trip, we were pretty much 80% noodles! This Vietnamese version of wonton noodles with char siu were not quite as good as the Malaysian ones but sometimes you just want a taste of the familiar! #connieconsumesVietnam 🍜

  • Move over fries... these are our new favourite beer snacks! When we ordered a roughly translated dish of ‘grilled pork’ we had no idea it’d be this good! As with lots of foods in Vietnam, you gotta wrap ‘em so just grab a leaf, throw on some pork bits, a bit of spicy salt, squeeze of lime and perhaps some fresh chilli and peppercorns, then enjoy! #connieconsumesVietnam .

  • I watched a snippet of No Reservations where Bourdain, in his usual no holds barred fashion, described ‘com hen’ and I immediately wanted to try it! Just a bowl of rice topped with tiny clams, herbs, banana blossoms, peanuts, and pork scratchings with some intense clam broth on the side... as you can imagine, it’s full of texture and bold, salty flavours! My first bowl of com hen was good, but the next time I tried a ‘bun hen’ with noodles as the base instead and absolutely loved it - definitely one of the best dishes from Hue! #connieconsumesVietnam .

  • One of the specialities in Hue is nem lui - which are grilled pork skewers (I thought they all came on lemongrass but these ones were just on wood skewers 😕)! The eating process requires some DIY but it’s fun - take a piece of rice paper, top it with the salad, pickles, pork then roll and dip into the peanut and chilli sauce - easy! Anyone else tried nem lui before?! #connieconsumesVietnam .

  • We stumbled across @marouchocolate in Hanoi quite by chance but it was a welcomed sight for this chocolateaholic! Created by two Frenchmen, Marou is a ‘bean to bar’ concept made entirely in Vietnam with Vietnamese cacao. All their products looked gorgeous but we couldn’t resist their patisserie selection... this chocolate tart was so rich, we probably didn’t need the brownie too, but ah well - sometimes you just gotta treat yourself! #connieconsumesVietnam 🍫
